Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante s third solo album isn t far removed from a demo. Taking the idea of a solo album literally, Frusciante is responsible for everything here, playing guitar over drum machines and adding occasional keyboards to the 15 songs, à la Bill Callahan s excellent Smog. The opener Going Inside offers promise that To Record will be an entertaining ride thanks to Frusciante s characteristically incandescent fretwork. The project is a little one-dimensional, however, hampered as it is by Frusciante s sub-J. Mascis yelp. --Mike Pattenden

Amazing. - this is an amazing cd. i absolutely love john frusciante and this cd captures his music in an amazing way. definetly one of his best works.

To Record Only Water for Ten Days!!! - This is a great album by a great guitar player. He s really got a creative mind and he s really in tune with making his songs sound good. To Record Only Water for Ten Days has a couple of songs that were featured in his internet only release album From the Sounds Inside. There s two instrumental songs, Murderers and Ramparts, while the other songs have a interesting lyric concept behind each one. Frusciante does an amazing job creating single notes as well as combining some good guitar chords. This is a must have for those of you who like the Red Hot Chili Peppers or/and is a fan of Frusciante.

My First Time with John - I have found a strong division between the fans and the what-were-you-thinking groups when it comes to John s brand of music. When I first heard him, this very album, I was entranced. My brother was the only one who could see my fascination...I was alone among my musical peers. I was mocked!Years and albums later, I am still a huge fan. I do not own one Chili Peppers CD, I think of John as a separate genre and talent. Of course, I suggest everyone experience John s sound himself or herself, but I do caution it is not what you expect if you think of him as a RHCP. His sound is often melancholy. I find it heady. It is easy to listen to repeatedly, but it is not pop music by any stretch. The samples are too short to get a good idea of how the music will make you feel. I started with To Record Only Water... then bought Shadows Collide with People. The latter being my absolute favorite of all his CDs. Wherever you start, be open, and enjoy!

must have if you re into quality music - this album is a must-have. period. frusciante fan or not, this album is something that you should listen and just throw yourself into. you ll come back a different person. hopefully, a better one, a more aware of your own self and of your own spiritual side. it took me more than half a year to buy this album and now i finally own it. FINALLY! i knew i had to have it when i first heard going inside . i m not an expert when it comes to frusciante s music, because i m only just begining this journey :). all i can say is that this changed my life completely. and for the better too. i decided with my heart and i have to say that it was a true adventure, with lots of wonderful surprises along the way. now you make your decision...

Eh...it s pretty good, in some ways - This album has some listenable songs. It also has some songs that have me fumbling for the fastforward button as quickly as I can. And these songs are the ones where Frusciante opens his mouth too much, and uses his higher singing voice. This voice is simply too high, squeaky, and irritating to be enjoyable in any way.The tracks that I find myself re-playing and enjoying are the ones that are only instrumental, like murderers and ramparts, or ones where he mixes a catchy guitar/drum machine rhythm & beat and sticks with his lower octaves, like on with no one and remain. All in all, an album with very high points and very low points
